Not sure what I’d like to do yet. Gary would love to golf, but then he’d have to bring his clubs (of course)! I’d like a “student-teacher conference” where we could visit with our teachers, if they are still around. The Sunday picnic would be fun. So, I guess I’ll choose the picnic.

  3. kimk says:

I’ll add the student-teacher conference to the poll and we’ll see what others think about it.

Just to get things started… One of my fond HS memories is the whitewater rafting trip we went on with Mr. Bolin on the Green River. Our group flipped the raft once and we all ended up in the 34 degree springtime water. And thought it was fun! I’ve attached a photo of me and tentmate Alan Tillquist. Hope to see you Alan! That’s an orange in my hand. For some reason I decided to eat only oranges on that whole trip.

how do I get access to other years yearbooks? Hope I can

  8. Kim Kokkonen says:

No one has found time to scan them, which is quite a job. Did you have something in particular in mind?

  9. richhurst says:

Thanks you guys for doing this. It is a gift to us all. Let me know how I can help and I will. Blessings

    • admin says:

Hi Rich, great to see you here. Probably the most important thing you can do for now is get the word out to any classmates you’re in touch with. And participate on this site via your profile, comments, etc.

  10. theletterI says:

I do remember Bill Bueno. Wan’t he the weatherman on tv?

  11. Terry Smith says:

Bill Bueno, sketched in 1970 by an unknown artist.

    • kimk says:

Sweet! Can you tell us more of the story?

      • Terry Smith says:

Bill Bueno’s concept of effortless apathy, which has been shown to increase artistic creativity, can be a problem in marching bands and the military.

        • KDPool says:

I remember him. As I recall he won a class election as a write-in but the militay-industrial complex snatched away his rightful role. I also recall he was delighted (as much as he ever was) not to have to serve.

          • DLB says:

I think I voted for him strictly on the recommendations of fellow classmates. Afterwards, discovering his true identity taught me one of the more valuable lessons I learned during my entire high school career.

  12. richhurst says:

I really remember that day as yesterday. I work with one of the Mom’s of a recently selected Steinmark Award athlete. David Marone, he is an athlete at Virginia Tech now. We had Thanksgiving dinner together and it was fun to tell him about Freddie and that family.

  13. RickKorthuis says:

I would like a golf outing, but the Friday night event would probably be better. Some folks might go Friday night but not Saturday night. Looking forward to it especially since I only have been able to be at the 30th

  14. kimk says:

Hi Pam. Our class pages from the 1968-1970 yearbooks have now been scanned and uploaded. Enjoy! Thanks Chug!

  15. RickKorthuis says:

I see Andrew Herbst lives in Calgary, Canada. We vacationed there a couple of times in the Banf, Lake Louise area. Simply gorgeous. Picture postcard views everytime you turned a corner

  16. theletterI says:

Golf Sat? After Sat night I was too tired to make much of the Sun picnic.

  17. Chug Roberts says:

I’m enjoying reading the profiles, but wondering why so few people are telling us what they’ve been up to the last 35-plus years.

Name, rank and serial number – come on, let us know what you’ve been up to.

I’m looking forward to attending in August.

  18. Terry Smith says:

The band was conscripted to serve the athletic department, and they discharged their duties cheerfully. But to keep the interest of their musicians, they did not always play typical band music. In this photo, they put aside their instruments to play kazoos. Sometimes the band’s powerful brass section would rattle the walls with the Bach Fugue in G Minor. And percussionists occasionally enjoyed watching pep club members march to mixed meter cadences. Frenetic appeals from the cheerleaders for band cheers were always ignored.

    • Kathy B says:

I remember the kazoos. Cool suprise for us! How bands have changed over the years. I think you guys started some trends. Maybe you all should bring your isntruments and play for us again, put together a band and let us cheer. The memories are strong and happy. :)

  19. Ann says:

Bingo??? Come on, maybe for our 60th. The Friday night thing we did without spouses at the 20th was really laid back and made the Saturday night event more fun after the opportunity to get reaquanted in a much more casual setting. Sunday picnic would be okay, but now that most of us are empty nesters, probably not as much fun as when we brought our kids. You guys on the committee all Rock for all your efforts, thanks for doing this for the rest of us.

  20. Ann says:

Don’t let us forget that 1970 was the first “earth day”

  21. [...] We have tentatively planned a Friday evening (August 13) get together and dinner Saturday evening (August 14) at the new clubhouse at Rolling Hills Country Club.  More activities will be planned for that weekend, so pencil it in now. 22. Kathy B says:

I am so looking forward to seeing family and old friends. Dad is still going strong and several of my nieces live there. Thanks for taking the time, Kim, to get the info on the motels. I am working on the trip now, and this is the first of two legs for us. We’ll be in Denver first, then Durango. We’ll see my sister there and do more research in both places. To be home again brings tears to my eyes. Wish we could invite some of our Golden HS friends. I’ll have to look up some of them! See ya’ll soon!

Five musicians from Wheat Ridge performed on “Open House,” a TV talk show, in 1970. Pictured, from left to right: Terry Smith, Linda Patrick, Bob Tanner, Chuck Angerman and Paul Chau.

The 30 minute program aired at 2:30 p.m. Sunday afternoon February 15, 1970 on the local ABC affiliate (Channel 9), right before ABC’s Wide World of Sports. The musicians viewed the broadcast backstage at Macky Auditorium in Boulder, where they played a concert with the Colorado All State Orchestra at 3:30 p.m. the same day.

Throughout the 1970s, Wheat Ridge students dominated the Colorado All State Orchestra, consistently winning about ten percent of the positions, including the highest number of first chairs — a record that is unrivaled in Colorado history.

Here we are, just a few hours from our first activity at the Buffalo Rose, about a fifteen minute or so drive. Can’t wait to see everybody! So cool!

Eric Clapton and Ginger Baker performed (with Jack Bruce) at the Denver Coliseum on Sunday October 6, 1968. –photo by Steve Wilcox, WRHS class of 1969.

Terry Smith and Gary Leever were hypnotized onstage, as part of the opening act. This concert by Cream was one of Barry Fey’s first big rock shows (and the only one with a hypnotist as the opening act).

In 1989, Barry Fey helped Denver Symphony Orchestra musicians to launch the new Colorado Symphony Orchestra.
